Games
My experience in the games industry.
Code Coven
Summer of 2020, I began the Code Coven Summer Incubator Program as a narrative designer and writer. I was grouped with individuals who had a passion for narrative driven games, and we were given the task to make whatever we wanted! Working with a team of people I’ve never met was intimidating, but we got along right away and set clear intentions on how to utilize the program for our growth. Code Coven helped us every step of the way with mentors, lectures, and group meetings, all meant to set us up for success. By the end of the program, I had written an entire game, worked in YarnSpinner, and collaborated with my wonderful, creative, and talented teammates to create Detours, a narrative road trip game featuring LGBTQ+ characters. We released Detours February of 2021, and I couldn’t be more proud. Code Coven gave me the opportunity to grow and develop my skills, and I am forever grateful for the Code Coven team and the wonderful community they have cultivated.
Filament Games
The fall of 2019 after I graduated, I was given the wonderful opportunity to work with people at Filament Games in Madison, Wisconsin, as a software developer. At Filament Games, I was able to work with mentors on games such as Win the White House and Branches of Power (both games are available to play on the iCivics website). I did things from localization (making the games available in multiple languages) to error fixes. I was also given the opportunity to work solo on updating a game called Engage With Older Adults which has not yet been released. Working as a solo developer gave me the opportunity to work more closely with the game designer on editing narrative branching paths. That gave me a snippet into what narrative writing and design would be like, and that reinforced me that narrative writing was the path for me.
Merge VR
I started off making desktop and mobile games in my game development classes in college. After my junior year in 2018, I had the opportunity to intern with Merge VR, a startup company in San Antonio, Texas. There, I built an internal application for them to rate worlds built in an app called Dig. Dig worked with their Augmented Reality cube to allow people to create worlds in the palm of their hands. Later in the summer, I was joined by another intern, and we created a game design document for a potential game in the future.
